How
does UNICAT4 work?
These Unicat4 Products function as combustion catalysts at the
moment of ignition when blended with the respective hydrocarbon fuel. The effect
of the catalytic reaction is that a more uniform and thorough combustion occurs.
With more complete combustion of the fuel, there is an improvement in fuel economy
because less fuel is used to achieve the same torque, a reduction in carbon
buildup which results in lower maintenance costs, lower harmful exhaust emissions
and a significant reduction of visible smoke.
Who uses UNICAT4
products?
UNICAT4 is used by engineering consultants, sales reps, farmers,
hauliers, caravanners, 4x4 and classic car enthusiasts. The products are used
in a broad range of equipment including bulldozers, forklift trucks, excavators,
lorries, buses, generators, combine harvesters, tractors, central heating boilers,
all makes of cars and motorbikes, lawn mowers and the list goes on.
How
does UNICAT4
help to reduce my maintenance costs?
Unicat4
users benefit from reduced maintenance, increased engine life and an extended
time between necessary engine overhauls. Unicat4 significantly facilitates equipment
maintenance during all stages of the combustion process. As a preburner conditioner
the hydrocarbon carrier in Unicat4 cleans the fuel tanks, lines, and pumps.
In the combustion chamber Unicat4 minimizes engine damage (caused by wear and
localized heat buildup) by reducing deposits of substances like carbon and vanadium.
Cylinder heads, pistons and other integral parts can be wiped clean with only
a soft dry cloth instead of requiring solvents and heavy abrasives. In the exhaust
system, Unicat4 virtually eliminates the corrosion and trumpeting on the valve
stems and feet, and keeps the turbochargers and exhaust manifolds free of soot
and harmful carbon buildup. The significant improvement in engine condition
with the use of Unicat4 has an equally beneficial effect on engine life. Equipment
rarely needs replacement parts because it experiences as little as half the
normal wear. Less equipment down time is financially beneficial because reduced
maintenance lowers costly labour and part replacement expenses.

Have
any users ever experienced engine problems?
Carvern
Petrochemical Co. Ltd. has manufactured UNICAT4 since the early 1970s. To date
there has never been a complaint from a customer that UNICAT4 has caused damage
to either an internal combustion engine or industrial boiler in which it was
used. Carvern Petrochemical Co. Ltd. has carried for 35 years, a Worldwide Product
Liability Insurance Policy and in that time there has never been a claim made.
Furthermore Carvern Petrochemical Co. Ltd. guarantees that UNICAT4 will not
cause damage to any internal combustion engine or industrial boiler in which
they are used provided they are blended in the respective fuels at the manufacturers
recommended treatment ratio.
What
are the environmental benefits?
Pollution
control and harmful emission levels are important concerns for companies for
many reasons: since the Kyoto summit governments have and will continue to create
stricter legislation, public opinion demands reduced waste and cleaner air,
and simple combustion chemistry demonstrates that it is advantageous to lower
harmful emissions. While government plans and public opinion may not directly
determine the priorities of a company, combustion efficiency is an important
issue which is essential to any company's success. Improved combustion of fuel,
results in a reduction of harmful emissions.
If the combustion of a pure hydrocarbon fuel were complete, carbon dioxide and
water would be the only reaction products. Other chemical compounds present
in the
exhaust
gas, such as carbon monoxide, particulate carbon, unburned hydrocarbons, and
partially oxidized hydrocarbons (aldehydes, ketones, acids, alcohols) are indicators
of incomplete combustion. Therefore, a reduction of these emissions indicates
a greater efficiency. By using UNICAT4 treated fuel in their equipment,
companies have been able to solve their smoke and emissions problems. Long before
heightened environmental awareness made emission an important issue, Unicat4
customers experienced reductions of harmful compounds including the virtual
elimination of smoke and the sulphur odour that had previously contaminated
enclosed areas like powerhouses, garages, and mines. These companies have shown
that Unicat4 treatment results in a reduction of unburned and partially unburned
hydrocarbons by as much as 80%, carbon monoxide by an average of 50%, and visible
and particulate smoke significantly. NOx emissions are reduced in some applications
by as much as 40%.
What
are the benefits for industrial boilers?
Reduced
maintenance and wear extend the life of equipment, limit the amount of labour
required for facility upkeep, and generally lower operating costs. UNICAT4FurnaceOil
facilitates the maintenance of boilers in three different stages of operation.
As a preburner conditioner, the dispersant carrier in Unicat4.3 maintains clean
filters and protects the life of fuel pumps from burnout by keeping the tanks
and lines free of sludge. UNICAT4 also keeps injectors and nozzles clean and
prevents seizing and fouling. In the furnace, the improved combustion reactions
(catalyzed by UNICAT4) reduce carbon accumulation on water and fire tubes. Unicat4.3
also limits corrosion damage by minimizing the production of vanadium pentoxide.
UNICAT4 minimizes pitting, metal fatigue and cold end corrosion by lowering
sulphuric acid production in the heat recovery system, air ducts, and stack.
UNICAT4 inhibits the formation of vanadium pentoxide. In the process of improving
the oxidation reaction, the catalyst expends the free O2 which would otherwise
react with vanadium compound (V2O3) to produce V2O5, UNICAT4 also reduces the
catalyzed oxidation of SO2 to SO3, thus preventing the formation of H2SO4.
After the fuel has been treated with the UNICAT4, burner adjustments should
be made to allow the boiler to operate with lower excess air, thereby reducing
heat losses and increasing the heat recovery effectiveness of the boiler. Tube
blowing frequency is reduced. With the reduction of carbon buildup on tubes
and other areas, annual maintenance scheduling can be extended six months or
longer.
Does
that mean I can use it in my oil-fired central heating boiler?
Unicat4Diesel
is the ideal product to use on 28 second heating oil and 35 second gas oil.
